About the band

History of Layers of Meta, Volume 1

The phrase “layers of meta” emerged gradually. Perhaps as a result of many hours joyfully wasted in sonic experimentation. Or perhaps as a description of the narrative voice of our time — endlessly commenting on itself in an infinite regress, meta layers all the way down — that slices through all these traditional-seeming songs.

Maybe it arose as an echo of band names like Sisters of Mercy, Fountains of Wayne, Kings of Leon, Eagles of Death Metal, Queens of the Stone Age, or Archers of Loaf. Did it matter? Does it now?

Maybe the more interesting question is who exactly are the people laying this meta down?
